Everett O. Pavey, 78, prominent in the business life of the community for many years, was dead on arrival at Culver Hospital Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack at the Crawford Hotel. Pavey had been staying at the hotel since last Friday. He had been a patient at Culver Hospital with a heart ailment and had gone to the hotel temporarily to avoid using stairs at his home, 308 Jones Ave. He founded the Community Motor Sales in 1940 and had been connected with the automobile sales agency since that time. When a young man he was employed by the Canterbury Spring Water Co. at Indianapolis. He came here in 1918 and was associated with his father, Benjamin Pavey, in the Pavey & Son Coal and Transfer Co. He continued to operate the business until 1939. Long interested in community affairs, he served as treasurer of the old Montgomery County Fair Association for several years. He was a member of the Crawfordsville Police Commission two terms -- the first time from 1935 to 1939 and the second time from 1956 to 1960. He was twice an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for mayor in 1934 and 1955. At one time he was a member of the Union Township Advisory Board. Interested most of his life in harness horses, he served as a starter for racing in all parts of Indiana in his younger days. He also had owned a number of horses and at the time of his death had two horses in training at Indianapolis. Born Nov. 23, 1888, in Parke County, he was the son of Benjamin and Melinda Pavey. He was married April 26, 1908, to Margaret Rogers. The only survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Martha Waters, and a sister, Miss Cora Pavey of Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hunt & Son Funeral home, with Rev. John R. Servies in charge. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
